Introduction In this chapter, students will study the various landforms that make up the physical geography of the United States and Canada. The eastern United States, for example, contains a long plateau of rolling hills called the Piedmont. This region, which falls between the Atlantic Coast and the Appalachian Mountains, extends from northeastern New Jersey to central Alabama and has provided rich agricultural land for hundreds of years. Students will access a National Park Service Web site to read about continuing efforts to preserve the historical character and scenic beauty of a portion of this unique American region.
