Why Books Are Dangerous

In his personal essay “Why Books Are Dangerous,” Neil Gaiman uses humor to tell about a specific time in his life. Gaiman also conveys to readers a serious thought—the idea that books are important to him. Even when he was a young boy, Gaiman tried to take a book with him wherever he went.

As you reread the essay, think about something that is important to you, just as books are to Neil Gaiman. Write a humorous anecdote, or brief entertaining story, about your chosen item. Use your sense of humor to make a serious point—just as Gaiman does.
