Looking for America

Near the end of “Looking for America,” the narrator asks her mother why Annie, the McNeeley’s servant, drinks water from a jar. The narrator’s mother replies that she probably is not allowed to drink from the family’s glasses. “Some things just don’t make sense,” she says. Are there any rules or laws that you think do not make sense? What are they and why do you think they do not make sense? Write a short essay about a rule or a law that you think does not make sense. Be sure to explain why you think it does not make sense and how you would want it changed.
