1.

Liberty, The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl, and Legal Alien

When you connect a literary work to personal experience, you link the work to events in your own life. While your experiences may not be exactly the same as those in “Liberty,” “The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl,” or “Legal Alien,” you have probably experienced similar feelings at some point. Perhaps you have occasionally felt different from the people around you. Perhaps you had to move away from someone or something you loved. Freewrite for a few minutes about a personal experience you had that helps you connect to these comparing literature selections.
