Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

Mrs. James

An anecdote is a short written or oral account of an event from a person’s life, often an incident that is humorous. In “Mrs. James,” Mildred shares a funny anecdote about work with her friend Marge. While her anecdote is meant to entertain, it also reveals truths about her relationship with Mrs. James. In a short paragraph, write an anecdote about an incident in your life. As you write, picture someone you know with whom you would like to share your anecdote. Include details that would amuse this person and help him or her visualize the event.
