He—y, Come on Ou—t!

In “He—y, Come on Ou—t!” people of a small Japanese village decide to use a mysterious hole at the site of a destroyed shrine to discard their garbage, which turns out to be a disastrous mistake. Although this story is science fiction, it connects to real-world environmental concerns about waste disposal.

Use the Internet to find information on waste-related issues by typing in “what happens to garbage or trash.” You should also try to find out where your local waste products go. Then write a brief report on your findings and if possible, comment on how well your community handles waste.
