1.

Beowulf

The Beowulf poet uses sensory details to describe different settings and to show the intensity of Beowulf’s battles. For example, at the dragon’s lair, Beowulf “saw / Huge stone arches and felt the heat / Of the dragon’s breath” (lines 767–769). Write a short poem in which an adventurer, such as a sailor or a rock climber, experiences a specific setting. Use sensory details throughout your poem to capture what the adventurer sees, hears, and feels.
