Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

The Seafarer

As you learned while reading “The Seafarer,” the speaker in the poem must deal with both internal and external conflicts. An external conflict is a struggle against an outside force, such as nature. An internal conflict is a struggle that takes place within the mind of the character. To better understand these types of conflict, write a poem in which your speaker deals with both internal and external conflicts.
