Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

from The Canterbury Tales

A prologue is an introductory section of a literary work. In the Prologue for The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer sets up the plots of the tales and introduces each pilgrim. In doing so, he ties the tales together and gives readers insight into the characters.

Imagine that you are going to write a novel about a fictional journey, for example a family traveling abroad or astronauts exploring a new planet. Write a prologue to your novel in which you introduce information that will be helpful to your readers. For example, you might name the characters in the book, list their different personality traits, or comment on their modes of transportation.
