Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

from Jane Eyre

You can draw conclusions about a character by identifying actions and responses that seem surprising, unusual, or different from those of other characters or from what one generally expects from people. In a short essay, analyze Jane’s character by examining three situations in which she does, says, thinks, or feels something unexpected. Describe each situation carefully, explain what is surprising or unusual about Jane’s response, and explain what you think her response says about Jane’s character. Include a conclusion in which you tie the three incidents together to make a general statement about the character of Jane.
