1.

Dulce et Decorum Est

The culmination of Owen’s poem is a famous Latin saying, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori (It is sweet and honorable to die for one’s country). Select a famous saying or aphorism, such as “It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.” Write a short poem that concludes with the aphorism you select. You can use the aphorism to represent your ideas or as an ironic statement, as Owen does. Your poem should lead naturally into the aphorism and should help to illustrate or contradict its point.
