The Gettysburg Address

In this speech, Abraham Lincoln states that the living should dedicate themselves to “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Write a letter to Lincoln telling him what this phrase means to you and to your experiences in life. Explain how the concepts on which United States democracy was founded—liberty and equality—have affected your life and the lives of others that you know personally. You might choose a personal anecdote or a remembrance from your own life or of someone in your family or of a friend to include in your letter.
