The Man with the Saxophone

“The Man with the Saxophone” is a narrative poem, which is a poem that tells a story. Like other stories, narrative poems have a plot, a setting, and characters. Ai’s poem is also written in free verse, which is poetry with no fixed pattern of meter, rhyme, line length, or stanza arrangement. Write a narrative poem of your own in free verse using Ai’s poem as a model. Set your poem in a city with the speaker walking through the streets. You might want to use a city that is familiar to you, such as one that you have visited on vacation, one where you go to visit friends or family, or the city in which you now live or in which you used to live. Your poem should show plot development, including exposition, rising action, climax, and falling action.
