Ozymandias
Shelley uses irony by contrasting the assumptions underlying the inscription on the statue of Ozymandias with the reality of the statue’s condition to a modern observer. Think of another situation in which there is a striking discrepancy between the expectation and the outcome. Write a poem in which you use the irony resulting from this situation to express the poem’s meaning, as Shelley does.
