Best of Buddies

Best Buddies is a program designed to help integrate mentally challenged members of communities. The program was created by Anthony Shriver while he was still a student at Georgetown University. Have you ever wanted to start a volunteer program of your own? For this exercise, divide into groups of four people. As a group, come up with an idea for a volunteer program in your community. As you think about your program, you may want to ask yourselves a few questions. What people in my community need assistance? What members of my community always sit on the outside? After you have come up with an idea, write a two-paragraph description of your program. Make sure to include a name for your program and a list of its worthwhile goals.
