Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

The Rider and I'll Walk the Tightrope

The speakers in both poems want something. The speaker in the first poem wants to escape his loneliness. The speaker in the second poem wants to make his way through life without falling. Think of something that you want. It can be abstract like the desires in these two poems, or it can be specific, something like a new bicycle or a new friend. Write a short poem about the thing that you want. When you are finished, read your poem out loud to a friend.
