Reading-Writing Connection Activities

1.

The Highwayman

Most of the stanzas in the poem have the same rhyme structure. They are four lines long, with the first two lines rhyming and the final two lines rhyming too. Write your own four-line poem. It can be about anything at all, but try to use this rhyme structure. Begin by thinking of two sets of words to rhyme (door and floor, lost and crossed, for example). Put these words on your page and then fill in the poem around them.
