from Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World

The excerpt from Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World describes a rescue mission that highlights the leadership skills of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

Reread the nonfiction article, and imagine that you are part of “Boss” Shackleton’s crew of five that leaves on the James Caird to get help for the stranded men of the Endurance. In a journal entry, describe one day of your journey. Use cause-and-effect relationships to explain what happened and why. Be sure to use signal words such as because, as a result of, therefore, and consequently to make the causes and effects clear.
