Comparing Literature: Aunty Misery and Strawberries

The folktales “Aunty Misery” and “Strawberries” each explain something about the world. “Aunty Misery” explains why everyone experiences misery. “Strawberries” tells a story of how strawberries came to be. Throughout the world, many cultures have used folktales to explain how the world came to be the way it is. Think of something in the natural world that you find interesting or beautiful. You might choose a flower, an animal, or a natural force. Then write a modern folktale in which you come up with an imaginative explanation for how it came to exist.
