1.

Charles

In “Charles,” Shirley Jackson uses character details to help readers imagine Laurie and his parents. For example, she notes that Laurie has started wearing “blue jeans with a belt.” Write a character sketch of a fictional classmate. In the first paragraph, describe your character’s appearance and clothing. Then write a paragraph about your character’s interests, such as hobbies, subjects at school, and so on. Finish with a paragraph describing how your character behaves at school.
