Primer Lesson

Carl Sandburg’s poem shares a lesson about life. Reread the poem and explain in your own words the poem’s message. What lesson about life have you learned? Think of someone you know who is younger than you to whom you might teach this lesson. Using “Primer Lesson” as a model, write a short poem that conveys to this person a lesson about life. You might try to use personification, as Sandburg does, to describe “proud words.”
