Pretty Words and Introduction to Poetry

A simile is a figure of speech in which a write uses like or as to compare seemingly unlike things. Here is an example of a simile from “Pretty Words”:

“I love smooth words, like gold-enameled fish”

For this activity, compose your own set of similes by thinking of words to fill in the blanks below. Use your imagination—your similes can be as simple or as complicated as you want. Then write the entire sentences in the box below.
