The Dying Cowboy

“The Dying Cowboy” is a ballad. A ballad is a poem that tells a story, usually in rhyming stanzas. In the poem, the speaker comes across a dying cowboy who tells him about the life that he has lived. Compose your own ballad about a subject that interests you. Try to use stanzas to organize your ideas. When you are finished, have a partner read your ballad out loud. Does it sound different when your partner recites it than it did in you head as you composed it?
