The Treasure of Lemon Brown

Walter Dean Meyers characterizes Lemon Brown by noting his musical talent, his style of speaking and walking, and details of his appearance. For example, Meyers includes details such as “crinkly, white hair,” and “rags held on with strings” to help readers picture Lemon Brown. Reflect on the story and the ways in which Meyers characterizes Lemon. Then create a fictional character of your own that has a particular interest or hobby. Write a character sketch in which you state your character’s name, describe his or her appearance, and note the hobby he or she enjoys.
