Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have read about puppetry, shadow play, and masks. Before they complete the crossword puzzle, you may wish to have students create collages that illustrate the different types of puppets and masks discussed in the chapter.

Lesson Description
Students will practice the vocabulary words for this chapter by completing a crossword puzzle. To get directions, they can press the Instructions button in the lower left corner. If they need a hint, they can press the Word List button. After finishing the puzzle, they can press Check to see how they did.

1. Students will match vocabulary words with their definitions.
2. Students will spell vocabulary words correctly.

  7. neutral mask: a white, featureless facial covering worn over the actor's own face
  8. puppet: almost anything brought to life by a human in front of an audience
  9. rod puppet: a puppet constructed without shoulders, arms, or legs and manipulated by one or more than one rod
  10. shadow puppet: a flat, two-dimensional puppet designed to form a silhouette on a white screen
