Overview

Voice is of paramount importance in regard to an actor's craft. Actors must learn how to control their voices. Practicing relaxation and developing breath control are ways in which an actor can develop voice control.

Onstage, actors need to make themselves heard and understood by all. They need to be articulate: speak clearly, gain pitch and vocal flexibility, learn poise, control volume and rate of speech, and project. Voice quality speaks volumes about a character's personality and moods. Actors need to keep in mind that audience members will probably view their theatre production only once; therefore, to be effective, actors need to make their voices definitively heard.
