Overview

Biographical narratives can offer vivid descriptions that bring real people to life. Dialogue lets readers “listen in” to the people and form their own opinions about them. Biographical sketches are short, informative pieces of writing about a person. When you are writing a biographical sketch, it is important to narrow your focus to a specific part of the person's life. If you want to show the “big picture” of the person's life, you should write a long narrative that shows turning points and significant moments. Creating a time line can help you track important events in the person's life. Poetic narratives present people's life stories in a more condensed way but add poetic elements such as rhythm and word choice.
