Introduction
Students have read about narrative writing. In this lesson, they will identify components of narrative writing and how they affect the reader.

Lesson Description
Students will choose two cards to match a term to a definition

Instructional Objectives
  1. Students will be able to identify the components of narrative writing.
  2. Students will able to describe how the components of narrative writing affect the audience.

  1. setting–time, place, weather, historical period, and cultural milieu
  2. cultural milieu–social setting
  3. conflict–what drives the plot of the story and keeps the audience interested
  4. mood–atmosphere
  5. theme–insight into human life conveyed through the narrative
  6. plot–the arrangement of chronological events to dramatize a conflict or a theme
  7. suspense–what creates physical tension and anxiety
  8. first person–narrator is a character in the story
  9. third person–narrator is not a character in the story
  10. screenplay–the script used in making a film
