Research Project: Interpretation

Compare Dr. Kamien's recording of Chopin's Prelude with two others by different performers. Note how the recordings differ in the following areas: expression, tempo, dynamic range, and relationship between melody and accompaniment.

For this project we ask that you visit a library and gather two or three recordings of the same musical work. Either the author's Chopin Prelude or another, such as a Bach cello suite or a Beethoven symphony movement, will work. Take notes on each issue mentioned above and listen to each version as many times as you need. Do you have a clear preference? If so, explain why.
