Writer's Choice Grade 7

Unit 1: Personal Writing

Overview

When you are with family or friends, you may talk about your thoughts and feelings. You can also write about your thoughts and feelings. You can show this writing to others or keep it just for yourself. This kind of writing is called personal writing. Journals, learning logs, and letters are all examples of personal writing.

Personal writing can help you think about your experiences. In a journal, you can write about anything and everything that is important to you. Writing about your experiences can help you better understand your life. You may even develop ideas from your journal into stories, poems, and songs.

Personal writing can also help you with your schoolwork. During class or while you read, you can keep track of information by taking notes. For a writing assignment, you can create a graphic organizer that can help you put your ideas in order. You can use a learning log for comments and questions about what you are studying.

Some forms of personal writing can be kept private (such as journals). Other forms are meant to be shared (such as letters and notes). Shared forms are still considered personal writing because the information shared is usually personal.
