Math Practice Step-by-Step

Follow these steps to solve the Section 9.1 Math Practice problem.

Calculating Pay
Figure It Out  You take a job that pays $5.00 per hour for a one-week, 20-hour orientation. Upon completion, you will earn $6.00 an hour for 20 hours each week. You will also receive a monthly clothing allowance of $50.00 a month. What is your total yearly compensation?

Step 1  Calculate the total wage for the first week. Multiply the pay per hour by the number of hours.

Step 2  Calculate the total wage for the next three weeks. Multiply the pay per hour by the number of hours per week. Then multiply this number by the number of weeks (3).

Step 3  Add the totals of Step 1, Step 2 and the clothing allowance. The sum is the answer to the question.
