Chapter 7: Group Discussion

Activity Lesson Plan

Introduction
Students have learned about the importance of effective communication within group discussions. In this lesson they will review concepts of group discussion as well as positive and negative ways to contribute to group discussions.

Lesson Description
Students will read statements based on various concepts of group discussion and choose the vocabulary word that correctly completes each statement.

Instructional Objective
Students will reinforce concepts of group discussion and ways to positively contribute to reaching group goals.

  1. panel: a relatively informal discussion that takes place before an audience
  2. disruptive conflict: occurs when personal victory is more important than group success
  3. questions of interpretation: requires group members to give their opinions on what given information means
  4. constructive conflict: develops when members use their differences to discover the best ideas
  5. forum: a discussion which allows for audience questions and comments
  6. questions of evaluation: members must agree or disagree on possible solutions
