Vocabulary Builder Course 1

Lesson 33:

Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have learned vocabulary words that contain the roots -pen- and -port-. Before students begin the activity, you might have them look closely at the vocabulary words with the root -pen- and discuss which of the original meanings of the Latin word pendere—"weigh," "hang," or "pay"— each has.

Lesson Description
Students will use knowledge gained about the Latin words pendere and portare to complete a True/False activity. To complete this activity, students drag either True or False to fill each blank. When they are finished, they can check their work.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will use their knowledge of the roots -pen- and -port- to help them determine whether each statement is true or false.
  2. Students will increase their understanding of words by thinking about them in different contexts.
