Activity Lesson Plans

Introduction
Students have learned vocabulary words that have been borrowed from other languages. Before students begin the activity, you might ask for volunteers who speak or who are studying another language to add words to this list.

Lesson Description
Students will identify six vocabulary words from the lesson by completing an Identification activity. To get directions, they can click on the How To Play button. After finishing the activity, they can check their work.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will choose vocabulary words from a randomly ordered list and match them to their definitions.
  2. Students will recall the meanings of words to make correct matches.

menagerie: collection of animals kept in cages or pens, usually for exhibition
renegade: person who abandons a cause, party, or group in favor of another
taboo: prohibition against things for social, cultural, or conventional reasons
siesta: midday or afternoon rest or nap
decoy: person or thing used to lure another into danger or a trap
embargo: government restriction on trade with a foreign country
