Welcome to the Glencoe Vocabulary Builder series! Glencoe's Vocabulary Builder is a research-based program that helps students strengthen their vocabulary for better reading comprehension and improved performance on standardized tests. There are seven workbooks in the program, one for each of grades 6 through 12. Each workbook is designated by a course number. The highly readable nature of these workbooks makes them adaptable to other grade levels. Glencoe's Vocabulary Builder has many other benefits! The lessons follow a clear, consistent structure. The list words are presented in subject area contexts, rather than in isolation, to help students develop the skills needed to unlock work meanings on their own. The second part of each lesson provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge of the words in reading and writing exercises. Glencoe's Vocabulary Builder prepares students for the SAT and other standardized tests. Reading selections in the humanities, social studies, and science parallel the kinds of readings that students encounter in the curriculum and on the SAT. In addition, most list words appear frequently on the SAT as well as in a wide range of adolescent and adult reading material. Each workbook includes test-taking strategies that present students with strategies for answering the kinds of multiple-choice questions that appear on standardized tests. A sixteen-page section at the back of each workbook provides standardized test practice in reading comprehension. |
