Section 16.1
Factories make two kinds of goods: durable and non-durable goods. In factories, production materials are converted into finished products. Workers develop special skills partly because the companies use a division of labor. Workers put everything together using an assembly line.

Section 16.2
To start a company or make a new product, a person first needs an idea and creates a design. The final product will be made from production materials and parts provided by suppliers. The manufacturing process adds value to raw materials.

Section 16.3
Market research is a way to find out what people will purchase. Suppliers provide materials or products to help you manufacture your own products. Quality assurance is a method for being sure products meet quality standards.
