Section 4.1 Society Affects Families

There are many trends in society that affect the family. Some of these are the aging population, lifelong learning, environmental change, and new technology. There are changes in the structure of family life. Some family patterns are increasing while others are decreasing. The workplace is changing and developing different kinds of jobs. Service industries are growing and there is a more global workplace.

Section 4.2 Appreciate Diversity

The world is made up of people from many cultures. Each culture has its own customs and traits that came about naturally. There are many likenesses among cultures. Two are that people must meet their basic needs and that families are the foundation of society. Still, there are cultural differences. Families teach their culture to their younger members. They often have a sense of cultural pride in their heritage.
