Wellness is a positive state of physical and mental health. There have been many advances in wellness over the years. Vaccines and antibiotics have helped. Surgery can be done with a laparoscope. Organ transplants and joint replacement are possible. Some diseases can be related to lifestyle choices. These include cardiovascular diseases, cancer, obesity, and diabetes. People can make choices that could decrease some of the risk of getting these diseases. Mental stress and illness can contribute to physical diseases. There are many ways to work toward wellness.

Positive health habits take planning and management. Healthful eating is based on MyPyramid. It is important to maintain a desirable weight. Eating disorders are mental problems. A good exercise plan includes exercises for endurance, strength, and flexibility. Most people need eight hours of sleep a night. Good health means rejecting harmful drugs. Personal and community resources can be used in working toward health and wellness. Personal leadership and management skills help in developing a more healthful lifestyle.
