Section 5.1

Review Key Concepts
1. Networking can let you know about job openings, introduce you to potential employers and provide references.

2. A chronological résumé lists the history of work experience by date. A skills résumé organizes work experience by specific skills and interests.

3. Clothing should be appropriate for the specific job. Wear clean, pressed, conservative business clothes. Be well groomed. Avoid carrying large purses, backpacks, or books.

4. Thank the interviewer for his or her time. Restate personal qualifications for the job and the desire to work for the company. Include contact information.

5. Your letter should outline the skills and accomplishments of the figure and why they are relevant to the position. Include a request for an interview.

6. Note that it is unprofessional and somewhat disrespectful to be too familiar in an interview.

Review Key Concepts

1 Ask about a dress code. Always choose clean, neat clothing especially if meeting the public. Coordinate clothing items in basic colors rather than bright colors. Jewelry should be simple and safe to wear in the work environment.

2. Flextime helps employees adjust their work schedules to the needs of their families. Telecommuting allows employees to work at home. Part-time workers who share one full-time job are job sharing.

3. If you enjoy your work, you are more likely to be successful at it.

4. Your paragraph should describe your business and how you will gain the skills, equipment, and other resources to run your business successfully.

5. Describe the process you go through when you manage your responsibilities and commitments. Compare this process to a parent or friend.
