Section 3.1 Friends

  1. An acquaintance is a person you greet or meet fairly often but do not have a close relationship with. A friend is someone with whom you have a close relationship.
  2. Peers provide a sense of belonging and can increase self-esteem.
  3. Someone to confide in, trust, and share common interests with.
  4. Use information from the text and personal experience to determine the qualities of a good friend. Sample interview questions: What do you like most about your best friend? What qualities in your friendship keep you together? How do you resolve disputes?
  5. Lists may include: research the new student's culture; talk about cultural differences as well as what you have in common; remember that different does not mean better or worse or wrong.

Section 3.2 Peer Pressure

  1. Friends who cheer for you when you are on a team are showing positive peer pressure.
  2. Say no and walk away.
  3. A bully is a person who physically or verbally abuses someone and intends to cause injury.
  4. Use costumes, music, or graphics to capture the attention of children.
  5. Include details about the situation, how you reacted, how the other group or individual reacted, and how you would handle a similar situation.
