Section 8.1 Your Job Search

  1. Survey, question, read, recite, and review.
  2. To compare prices, prepare a meal, or remove stains from clothes.
  3. Concentrate on what the other person is saying; let the other person know you are listening; allow the other person to finish without interrupting; listen even if you do not agree.
  4. Questions may include: What are your career goals? Why are you the best person for the job? Why did you apply here? Do you enjoy working with people?
  5. Answers should explain how a family member's attitude toward work might play a part in your career choices. For example, if your mother enjoys her job as a reporter, she might inspire you to work in journalism.

Section 8.2 On the Job

  1. Tell the harasser to stop, and report the situation to your supervisor.
  2. The exact date of your last day of employment, a thank you to the employer for his or her help during your time with the company, and a brief explanation of why you are leaving.
  3. Letters should be addressed to supervisors and include the last date of employment, a thank you, and an explanation of why you are leaving.
  4. Answers may vary depending on regulations in your area. Sample answers: Former employers are only allowed to confirm dates that the employee worked and his or her salary. Work records can be viewed only by the employee, human resources, and the employee's supervisors.
