Teen Health Course 1

Chapter 11: Preventing Diseases

Student Web Activities - Lesson 2 - Why Wash?

Introduction

Believe it or not, we all have millions of germs on our hands. Most of these can’t hurt us, but some can cause illnesses, such as colds, flu, and food poisoning. When we forget to wash our hands, or don't wash correctly, we can spread these germs to other people. We can also cause problems in our own bodies by touching our eyes, mouths, noses, or open wounds. On the Web site below, you will learn more about the importance of hand washing and the best way to wash to prevent the spread of germs.
