Review Key Concepts

1. Physical health refers to the condition of your body. Mental and emotional health refers to your thinking, attitudes and feelings. Poor physical health can lead to poor mental and emotional health, and vice-versa.

2. The four elements of fitness are: heart and lungs, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.

3. Strategies for dealing with stress include: exercise, healthy eating, plenty of sleep, avoid caffeine, prioritize activities, talk it out, and be realistic.

Practice Academic Skills

4. Emphasize the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of exercise. Provide suggestions for enjoyable ways to exercise.

5. Your essay should mention that a person’s physical, mental, emotional, and social health are affected by your day-to-day actions and decisions. If you take care of your body and keep a positive attitude, you are more likely to enjoy good health. Provide specific ways the student can promote each area of health in your life.

Review Key Concepts

1. It is important to maintain a healthy weight because you can die from a poor diet or lack of physical activity.

2. Alcohol is especially dangerous for teens because it interferes with your natural growth and development.

3. Babies born to teens are at risk for physical and mental disabilities. Most teenage mothers are unmarried and unable to pursue higher education due to their new responsibilities. The lack of money, education, and freedom can make teens feel overwhelmed and trapped.

4. Avoid high-risk behaviors by staying informed about good health practices and by pursuing positive friendships and activities.

5. Provide specific examples of programs and policies that have been put into place. Evaluate the effectiveness of these measures.

6. Genetics affect your basal metabolic rate. Your self-perception may be affected by the body shape and other physical features that you inherited from your family.
