Review Key Concepts
1. Mealtime etiquette is a set of guidelines for behavior when setting a table, serving a meal, and using polite table manners. Knowing these guidelines helps individuals feel comfortable about acting appropriately.

2. Use a tablecloth and/or placemats or a table runner, as well as adding a centerpiece and candles.

3. From least formal to most formal, serving styles are buffet service, family service, and plate service.

4. When clearing a table, you should only clear one or two plates at a time, pl acing the flatware across each plate. In the kitchen, scrape the plates of any bones or leftover food, stack the scraped plates quietly. Before dessert is served, clear all dinner plates.

1. Tip amounts are generally 15 to 20 percent of the bill before tax.

2. When eating outdoors, remember to use an insulated cooler for perishable foods, take only the amount of food you need, keep hot foods hot, separate raw foods from other foods, and bring a meat thermometer.

3. Plans will vary, but should include a meal in a park, at a beach, in a restaurant, or at another venue. Include information on how to prepare for the outing, including food preparation, invitations, and etiquette during the meal.

4. Presentations will vary, depending on the countries chosen. Describe the proper etiquette for eating, including how to treat guests, table manners, and the responsibilities of the host and guests. Discuss the similarities and differences between their own culture and the one they researched.
