Review Key Concepts
1. Sewing earns money for professionals and can save money for amateurs.

2. The three different basting techniques are hand basting, machine basting, and pin basting.

3. With some fabrics, you might be able to tell just by looking. You can also check at the arrows printed on the garment pattern. Or, you can slide a finger along the raw edge of the fabric, and if this smooths the yarns against the fabric, this is the direction of the grain.

1. To mark a hem at the beginning, you need someone else to measure the correct length for the hem up from the floor while you stand still in the garment.

2. Alterations can extend the usefulness of a garment, helping you save money.

3. If the casing is too wide, the elastic will twist inside the casing when the garment is worn.

4. Your report should be highly descriptive and use fashion specific jargon for authenticity.

5. Include examples such as police officers, fire fighters, nurses, store employees, restaurant employees, students, and the military. Do uniforms push unnecessary conformity in some situations?
