Figure 10.1

Designing an Apartment Building
You and several friends have been given the task of designing and laying out a new, apartment building.

Activity
Using graph paper, draw a large square representing the exterior walls of the building. Now, working as a team, decide on the best way to divide one floor of the building into six equally sized apartments. You must include hallway access to each of them, a public vending area and a public waiting area. Designate where windows and doors will be. For a tougher challenge, try the exercise again, but this time the rooms are different sizes: two of them will be premium apartments, larger in size than the rest and closer to the vending and waiting areas. Premium apartments must also have windows on two different walls.
