Job Target
Job target refers to a desired job or job field. Before searching for a job, it is important to research and decide what kind of job you want. Go to online job search sites to see descriptions and requirements of the jobs in which you are interested. Even though this research can be time-consuming, a focused search will likely save time in the long run. It will help you determine what kind of résumé to prepare, what experience and credits to highlight, and the best method of getting your résumé out into the field.

Practice Searching for a Job Online
There are many criteria you can use to search for a job: location, industry, salary, title, and skills. You can even look for jobs in a particular company. For this lesson your main objective is to check employment opportunities by industry.

  1. Visit monster.com and click the link to search for jobs.
  2. Select a technology-based industry, such as Computers Hardware, Computers Software, Internet/E-Commerce, Information Technology, or Electronics.
  3. Make sure the Sort Results by: is set to Key Word Relevance, and click Get Results.
  4. Narrow the search results by using specific job-search keywords in the search box at the top of the page. You might try adding a location or choosing one of the specific job titles listed in the results.
  5. Go back to the main home page and try another technology-based search.

Explore the different listings to get a good idea of the types of technology jobs available, required experience and skills, salaries, and submission requirements.
